Softball Wins Rain-Shortened Game

RUSTON - An attempt to continue the two-game series between Louisiana Tech and Tulsa was futile as rains continued to pound North Louisiana Sunday afternoon, forcing Louisiana Tech and Tulsa coaches to agree to cancel the remaining game of the weekend.
The Lady Techsters (23-26, 6-5 WAC) are credited with a 1-0 victory against the Golden Hurricane (40-16, 9-4 WAC) after Tech led game No. 1 played Saturday afternoon when the contest was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning.
With the win, head coach Sarah Dawson's squad recorded their sixth straight Western Athletic Conference victory since starting league play 0-5. Tech also snapped Tulsa's 11-game winning streak sending the Golden Hurricane to defeat for the first time since April 3.
The lone run of the 1-0 Tech win was scored in the bottom of the first inning Saturday when sophomore second baseman Mary Cohn recorded a clutch, two-out single, scoring Brittany Stanley from third base.
Tech senior pitcher Marla Pinkston pitched brilliantly for the Lady Techsters, registering her 13th win of the season, allowing only two hits and no walks while striking out three in the five innings of work.
The Lady Techsters will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, for a two-day, four-game series against Hawaii starting Friday.
