Techsters' Season Ends at Fresno

Boxscore

FRESNO, Calif. ? Fresno State strung together 12 hits to down Louisiana Tech 9-0 Friday afternoon at Bulldog Diamond in day two of the 2006 Western Athletic Conference tournament.

The win by Fresno (35-16) eliminated the Techsters from the tournament, bringing their season to an 18-31 close.

?Our inexperience really showed through this weekend,? said head coach Sarah Dawson. ?We know we are talented enough, we proved that with the wins we had against these teams already this season. When it came down to it, we were just inexperienced.?

Fresno?s Robin Mackin (26-11) ? WAC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year ? struck out seven Tech batters and pitched a five-inning one-hit victory, as the game was called due to the eight-run rule.

Tech?s lone hit came in the bottom of the fifth on a single by freshman center fielder Emma Barnes.

Freshman Krissi Oliver (11-14) was credited with the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits in 2.0 innings of work. Senior Kristin Rupp came on in relief, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing zero runs on two hits in her final game as a Lady Techster.

Dawson said although the team is young, it has made strides this season.

?I am proud of us being here. We were picked to finish last and we didn?t,? she said. ?I hope this experience will be a positive one for us, and hopefully next year we?ll have even more motivation and confidence coming into the season and this tournament.?
