RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team had their first official practice of the season on Friday at the Temple Baptist Church.
"I am extremely excited and it is a long time coming," said first-year head coach Michael White. "I am thrilled to be the head coach here and to official start the first day of a new era as we implement our own style and have a chance to evaluate our roster in-depth."
The 2011-12 Bulldogs have seven returners, including one redshirt, from last season's squad that finished 12-20. Joining the team this year are seven newcomers that feature two transfers from Ole Miss, senior guard Trevor Gaskins (Alpharetta, Ga.) and freshman forward Isaiah Massey (McDonough, Ga.).
To get the team ready for the high-tempo offensive and defensive style that White and his staff will run this season, they prepared the players through individual workout groups.
"They have done a tremendous job during individual workouts. Our players and staff have had as good as a fall as I have been associated with in 12 years of coaching," White said.
Tech continues preseason practice with two sessions tomorrow, one in the morning and the afternoon, at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Bulldogs will welcome the new season with their fans at the annual Basketball Bonanza that is set for Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center. Tech's first game will be an exhibition against Texas A&M Kingsville on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. in the TAC.
