AUBURN, Ala. - Despite a hand full of rain delays, Louisiana Tech sophomore Taly Merker waited patiently for her match and the wait was worth it as she notched a straight sets singles victory that propelled her into the semifinals of the B draw on day two of the ITA Southern Regionals.
Merker was able to outlast Emily Mallory of Samford 7-6, 6-3 to be the last remaining Lady Techster in the main portion of the draw. She will face Amy Lowther of UAB on Sunday morning.
Earlier in the day, Joanna Nalborska put up a strong fight versus the No. 5 seed Erin Routliffe of Alabama, but fell 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16.
Also eliminated in singles was Melanie Urvoy 6-2, 6-1 in the B draw quarterfinal and Jazmin Britos 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the main draw consolation.
Still alive though, along with Merker, is Manoela Chiacchio who breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sarah Gail Niebur of Samford to reach the quarterfinal round of consolation in B draw.
Due to the inclement weather, the back draws of both doubles flights will no longer be played.
