RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech tennis team puts its four-match winning streak on the line this weekend as they travel first to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
LA Tech (4-1, 1-0 C-USA) will then make a quick trip down I-10 to take on McNeese State in Lake Charles on Sunday with first serve at 2:30 p.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
"The team is looking forward to the weekend," said head coach Chad Camper. "We get to play two quality matches. Both teams will challenge us in ways we have not been challenged yet this season.
We are getting deeper into the season so all the teams are fully equipped and trying to see where they measure up to other conference schools."
The competition definitely stiffens up for the Lady Techsters who have only given up two matches in the last four wins.
Three players - Alexandra Starkova, Jazmin Britos and Taly Merker - remain undefeated in singles, combining for 11-0.
In doubles, it has been the duo of Marta Sramkova and Melanie Urvoy who is pacing the team with a perfect 5-0 mark.
Saturday's contest will be Lamar's (2-3) home opener. The Cardinals have notched wins over Jackson State and Northern Arizona, but are coming off a 6-1 defeat at UTEP.
Senior Dariya Dashutina, a second team All-Southland selection last season, leads the team at the No. 1 spot.
McNeese State (2-3) comes into the weekend with impressive victories versus UTEP and UT Arlington.
The Cowgirls have lost back-to-back matches over nationally-ranked Rice and LSU. They have a two-headed monster at the top with sophomore Klaudia Gawlik, last year's Southland Conference Player of the Year and the Louisiana Co-Player of the Year, and freshman Sara Castellano.
"With the competition getting harder, we need to rise up to that level from the beginning," said Camper. "We can't wait then try to react, but instead come out solid and aggressive. This will be a good weekend for me as a coach to see where we might still be lacking and continue to see where we need to improve."
