RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech sprinters Jermey Hicks and Brittany Walker were honored by Conference USA Tuesday as the Tech pair were named the league's Track Athletes of the Week.
Hicks was named the C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week while Walker was named Co-Track Athlete of the Week, sharing the honors with Marshall's Isatu Fofanah.
Hicks ran the 19th-fastest time in the nation in the 100m dash over the weekend as Louisiana Tech competed at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hick's time of 10.31 leads Conference USA and is the seventh-fastest time in Louisiana Tech history while marking a new personal record time for the sophomore. The time of 10.31 is also the fastest 100m dash time a Louisiana Tech sprinter has recorded since 2007. Hicks also ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that finished sixth with a time of 40.48.
Walker ran the second-best 100 meter time of the week in Conference USA and was on the relay team that set a league-leading time at the LSU Alumni Gold Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Walker's time of 11.66 ranks fourth in the C-USA and was the best 100m time in the conference over the weekend. She also ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that finished second only to LSU with a time of 44.79, a mark that leads Conference USA, is ranked 15th in the nation and 31st in the world.
The honors are the first athlete of the week awards for Louisiana Tech in the 2015 outdoor season.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Saturday, April 25 with Tech's men and women set to compete at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
