RUSTON ââ'¬" After recently spending 12 seasons as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, Louisiana Tech is no stranger to playing on the west coast.
The Bulldogs will make the long flight once again to take on the California Bears on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. CT inside Haas Pavilion.
The matchup will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network and online via Pac-12.com/live and the Pac-12 Now app with Roxy Bernstein and Mike Montgomery calling the action.
LA Tech (3-2) made yearly trips to the Golden State from 2001-13 to face then-conference foes like Fresno State and San Jose State. The Bulldogs' most recent trip to the Bay Area came in the season opener of the 2013-14 season when they took on Saint Mary's in Moraga.
This game is part of the California Bears Classic, a multi-team event that started for LA Tech this past Sunday which resulted in a 74-53 home victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
Veterans Jacobi Boykins and Erik McCree put together their best offensive performances of the season, combining for 44 points which included eight made three-pointers. The duo anchored a second half explosion by outscoring the Hawks 43-27 in the stanza in what was arguably the team's best 20 minutes of basketball this year.
Boykins finished with a career-high 26 points while McCree cashed in for 18 points and nine boards. Also turning in a stellar outing was point guard Derric Jean who notched his first career double-double with 14 points and 11 assists.
All three starters are averaging double figures in scoring, led by McCree with 14.4 points per game. Boykins is averaging 14.0, Jean at 10.0 and Omar Sherman rounds out the group with 11.2 points per game.
Meanwhile, California (4-1) is receiving points in the AP and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls and is riding a 23-game home winning streak which is tied for the seventh longest in Division I. Home win No. 23 came via a 67-55 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.
The Bears four victories this season have been in large part due to their dominating the glass. They rank No. 7 in the country in rebounding margin at +13.0 which has helped holding opponents to just 62.2 points per game on average.
Freshman guard Charlie Moore leads the team in scoring with 20.2 points per contest. Cal is also led by sophomore Ivan Rabb, a potential NBA Lottery pick, who averages 16.0 points and 10.3 boards per game.
The Bears are coming off a 23-win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood.
The game can be heard live on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) and KTKC 92.9 FM (Springhill) and on the LA Tech X Mobile app. The "Voice of the Bulldogs" Dave Nitz will call the action.
