RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech second baseman Jordan Washam has been selected as the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after the junior helped lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record in four road games this past week.
Washam was a combined 11-for-16 at the plate to help guide LA Tech to a midweek win at Little Rock and a series victory on the road at WKU. The junior hit .688 for the week with six RBI's, four runs, a double and home run. He also walked twice, was hit by a pitch and stole a base. In four games, Washam recorded a .737 on base percentage and .938 slugging mark. This is Washam's first C-USA Hitter of the Week honor.
He began the week by going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI in LA Tech's 7-4 win at Little Rock after coming in the game as a pinch hitter in the fourth inning. The junior had a two-run home run in a 2-for-3 effort in Friday's series opener at WKU, but it was Washam's big day at the plate Saturday that helped the Bulldogs tie the series against the Hilltoppers.
On Saturday in Bowling Green, the junior infielder was 4-for-6 with a double, three RBI's, two runs and a stolen base in LA Tech's 12-9 victory over WKU. In the series finale, Washam tallied two more hits on the weekend in a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a walk and run scored.
Over the course of a week, Washam raised his batting average 89 points to move to second on the team with a .380 average on the season.
With a 2-1 series win over WKU, the Bulldogs won their first road conference series since defeating Dallas Baptist two out of three during the 2013 season.
