CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the second consecutive year the Lady Techsters have 30 wins and for the second consecutive year they are headed to the Conference USA Tournament in Denton, Texas.
There is still a lot to play for as Louisiana Tech (31-19, 12-8 C-USA) heads into Sunday's finale with a chance to grab the highly coveted two-seed, which would give the Lady Techsters a double-bye.
Louisiana Tech swept a double header with Charlotte (31-23, 10-13 C-USA) on Saturday afternoon by scores of 6-0 in game one and 7-4 in game two.
Bailey Allen got the start in game one and delivered her third complete-game shutout of the season. Allen allowed just six hits, while striking out four over seven scoreless innings.
The Lady Techsters continued their first inning success tacking on two runs in the first frame of a pivotal final conference series.
After Anna Cross and Kristen Miles walked to open the game, Pauline Tufi put down a perfect sacrifice bunt and beat it out for an infield single. The throw ricocheted off of the shoulder of Tufi and down the right field line, allowing Cross to score from second and putting LA Tech on the board.
Freshman Morgan Turkoly came through once again with an RBI-single through the right side, to score Miles and give Louisiana Tech a 2-1 lead.
Turkoly and Kassie Harris each delivered a solo home run in the middle innings to stretch the lead out to 4-0.
LA Tech would tack on two final insurance runs in the sixth as Katie Smith and Karlee Jensen came around to score on a North Texas error off of the bat of Tufi.
In game two, Preslee Gallaway got the nod, while Anna Cross came on in relief.
For the second consecutive game, LA Tech put two runs on the board in the first, as Harris and Smith drew bases-loaded walks to bring home Miles and Tufi.
Charlotte scored a run of their own in the first, but a double from Tufi in the bottom of the second allowed Cross to score and extend the lead to 3-1.
Charlotte would cut the Louisiana Tech lead to 3-2 in the third inning, but that was as close as the 49ers would get.
Smith blasted her fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning, a solo shot, to push the lead out to 4-2.
Louisiana Tech would score three crucial insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Pauline Tufi would reach on an error, as Tori Charters scored on the bobbled ball.
Turkoly made the 49ers pay for the extra base runner, hitting a bases clearing double to the gap in left center. After Miles and Tufi had crossed the plate Louisiana Tech led 7-2.
Charlotte would score two runs in the seventh but it wasn't enough as Preslee Gallaway picked up her eighth win of the season.
Cross pitched the final three innings and picked up her first save of the season.

Louisiana Tech blasted three home runs on the, moving their season total to 60 which sets a new school record.
