LA Tech Golf Finishes 13th at Little Rock First Tee Classic

LITTLE ROCK - The Louisiana Tech Golf team closed out the Little Rock First Tee Classic on Tuesday, finishing the two-day tournament in 13th at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Head coach Jeff Jenkins and the Bulldogs compiled a three-round team total of 908 (303, 300, 305) at the 72-par course in Little Rock, while the host Trojans captured the title with a team total of 856 through three rounds.

Louisiana Tech was led by freshman Felix Palson, who had a three-round total of 221 (74, 73, 74) for the tournament to finish nine shots back of the leader tied for 18th in the college classic. Little Rock's Zach Coats also captured the individual title for the Trojans, shooting four-under-par over three rounds.

After the first round of play on Monday, the Bulldogs were tied for 11th in the field with a total team score of 303 through 18 holes. LA Tech had two players in the top 30 through the first round with Karsten Green leading the way after shooting 1-over-par (73) and four back of the leader. Freshman Felix Palson was five back of the leader on Monday after shooting 2-over-par (74) in the opening round of play.

LA Tech enjoyed its best golf on Monday afternoon in the second round as the team combined to shoot 300 (73, 74, 75, 78) over 18 holes, while Palson led by shooting one-over in the round, but it was the third and final 18 holes that dropped the Bulldogs to 13th in the final standings with a team score of 305 to close out the tournament.

In addition to Palson, LA Tech's Charles Neel White (77 + 75 + 75 = 227) and Karsten Green (73 + 74 + 80 = 227) finished in the top 50, while John Lewis Sams competed as an individual with a score of 233 (75 + 79 + 79) on Monday and Tuesday. Joacim Ahlund (79 + 79 + 77) and Hunter Glenn (83 + 78 + 79) also competed for the Bulldogs this week and posted scores of 235 and 240, respectively.

The Bulldogs are back in action early next week as the team travels to compete in the Old Waverly Collegiate Championships on April 3-4 in Starkville, Mississippi.
