March 31, 2017

RUSTON ââ'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team will travel south to New Orleans this weekend for two matches at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center, facing Tulane on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m.

LA Tech (11-8) is starting to hit its stride with only six regular season matches left before the conference tournament. The team has won four of the last five matches, including a convincing 6-1 win over Stephen F. Austin this past Wednesday.

Senior Jazmin Britos continues to anchor the team from the No. 1 singles position with a 12-5 record. One more win will give her 50 career dual wins, making her just the third player in program history to accomplish that feat.

Playing arguably their best tennis right now are sophomore Sonia Chen and senior Marta Sramkova. Chen and Sramkova have settled into the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, respectively, and each has won five straight.

Tulane (18-5) comes into the weekend ranked as the No. 43 team in the country in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Green Wave have won seven of their last eight matches and boast a 9-1 record at home, including an upset win over No. 28 LSU.

Freshman Ivone Alvaro has won a team-best seven straight singles matches to propel her dual record to 14-5, playing primarily from the No. 4 spot. Fellow freshman Christina Sisti also has a team-best 14 singles wins, playing mostly at No. 6.

Middle Tennessee (6-11) looks to get back on track this weekend, coming off back-to-back home losses to Memphis and VCU.

Freshman Lidia Burrows leads the team with a 9-6 singles mark, playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Junior Josefina Zehnder anchors the team at the top singles position.

LA Tech is 0-4-1 all-time against Tulane on the courts. Despite both teams being in the state of Louisiana, this will be the first time since 1986 that they will face one another.

The Lady Techsters are 1-4 all-time against the Blue Raiders. The two squads last played in 2015 which also took place in New Orleans with MT coming out on top. LA Tech's lone win in the series came the year prior in 2014.
