In their last outing, LA Tech (13-5, 3-2 C-USA) remained undefeated at home this season with a 73-56 victory over Middle Tennessee. The Bulldogs forced 17 turnovers and held the Blue Raiders to one of its lowest scoring outputs.Â
Â
The 'Dogs are only giving up 61.2 points per game during league contest only, the best in C-USA. They have held three of its five conference opponents to under 60 points while the rest of the league has combined to only do so five times total.Â
Â
On offense, all seven of the rotation players scored in double figures one time during the two-game home stand. On Saturday, it was sophomore
Anthony Duruji leading the way with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Fellow sophomore
Amorie Archibald pitched in with 15 points.
Â
The limited bench provided an offensive spark as junior
Ra'Shawn Langston tallied 10 points and junior
Mubarak Muhammed recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
As a team, LA Tech currently ranks third in C-USA in scoring offense (76.8) and second in field goal percentage (46.2). Four of the five regular starters for the Bulldogs are averaging double figures for the season, still led by junior
DaQuan Bracey with 13.4 points per game.
Â
Old Dominion (12-5, 2-2 C-USA) finished non-conference play with eight straight wins, including victories over VCU and Syracuse. The Monarchs have since started C-USA play with wins over WKU, coming out on top 69-66 in what was the largest comeback in program history, and a recent 75-74 win at FIU with the winning field goal coming in the final seconds.
Â
To no surprise, ODU is yet again one of the best defensive teams in the country. They rank first in C-USA and sixth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of only 60.3 points per game. They also rank first in the league and 13th in the country in field goal percentage defense (38.2).Â
Â
The backcourt duo of Ahmad Caver and B.J. Stith has been a deadly one-two punch for the Monarchs this season. The two have combined for four C-USA Player of the Week honors with Caver averaging 18.0 points and 5.3 assists per game while Stith is averaging 17.8 points and 8.3 boards per game. They combine for 53 percent of the team's scoring.
Â
LA Tech and Old Dominion are meeting for the sixth straight season with the Monarchs holding a 5-2 advantage in the series. ODU has won five of the last six meetings, including both contests last season. For LA Tech, both victories have come in Norfolk.Â
