RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team will wrap up its non-conference slate on Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. when they play at the GSU Soccer Complex against crosstown foe Grambling State.
Â
It will be the eighth road game of the season for LA Tech (8-0-0). The Lady Techsters returned from the state of Alabama this past Sunday in their last action, defeating Montevallo by a final score of 3-1.
Â
Amber Posthauer and
Sophie Fijneman netted goals, but it was the goal of
Autumn Woodard that proved to be the game winner in the second period.Â
Â
The sophomore transfer continued her torrid start, making it seven straight games with a goal scored. It was also goal No. 10 on the season for Woodard, making her the fifth player in program history to register double-digit goals in a single season.
Â
Defensively, LA Tech has allowed just six goals through eight games. Four different goalkeepers have seen action thus far, including
Tuva Sallvin and
Katie Cook who combined for 10 saves in the team's last match.
Â
Grambling State (3-3-0) is coming off a disappointing weekend with shutout losses at Tulsa and Oral Roberts. Prior to that though, the Lady Tigers recorded victories over LSU-Shreveport, ULM and Northwestern State.
Â
GSU is coming off a season where it won the outright regular season SWAC championship, but fell in the SWAC Tournament title game. They returned three all-conference players, including two-time leading scorer Kaylee Holt.
Â
This will be the 12th meeting in the series between the two programs separated by five miles. It is the most meetings against an opponent for the Lady Techsters who have won eight straight over the Lady Tigers.Â
