Preview: LA Tech vs. Ecclesia College

The Bulldogs host the Royals Sunday at 2 p.m. inside the Thomas Assembly Center

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech looks to bounce back Sunday when the Bulldogs host Ecclesia College inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court. Four of the next five games for LA Tech will come at home where they are undefeated this season.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (4-3)
LA Tech was unable to pick up its first road win this past Wednesday, falling 77-69 to Georgia Southern. The Bulldogs got to within one early in the second half but chased the Eagles the rest of the game without being able to take the lead. LA Tech got outrebounded for just the second time this season, getting beat 32-29 on the glass with Georgia Southern collecting 12 second-chance points.
 
Despite a five-minute scoreless stretch in the first half, LA Tech still shot 50.0 percent from the field (27-of-54). Through the first four games, the Bulldogs shot 39.6 percent while in the last three contests they are shooting 51.4 percent.
 
The LA Tech bench registered a season-high 57 points against the Eagles. They have now scored 50+ points in three of the sev­en games this season and are averaging 40.57 points per contest, which ranks 10th in the country.
 
DJ Dudley was exceptional against the Eagles, scoring a sea­son-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Through his first four games as a Bulldog, the junior averaged just 4.5 points per game (18 total points). Over the last three contests, he is averaging 17.7 points while shooting 48.8 percent. He is also averaging 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists during this stretch.
 
AJ Bates continues to pace the team in scoring with an average of 11.3 points per game. The sophomore was limited to seven points at Georgia Southern, but did tie his career high with nine assists. The point guard is now averaging 5.3 dimes her game, which ranks third in CUSA and 59th in the country.
 
Sir Issac Herron had another strong performance, posting 10 points and four boards at Georgia Southern. Over the last three games, the graduate senior is averaging 10.7 points while shoot­ing 84.2 percent from the field. He has shot over 80 percent in all three games (tied for second most in the country with at least six field goal attempts in each contest).
 
ABOUT ECCLESIA COLLEGE (0-12)
Ecclesia College, located in Springdale, Arkan­sas, competes in the National Christian Col­lege Athletic Association (NCCAA).
 
The Royals, who are winless so far this season through 12 games (all coming on the road), have faced a challenging mix of NAIA, NCAA Division I and II opponents. Their non-con­ference slate includes six matchups against DI competition, having already taken on Al­abama State, Southern, and Northwestern State.
 
Along with the Bulldogs, Ecclesia will also go up against Oral Roberts and Arkansas-Pine Bluff before beginning league competition. The Royals are spending their first 19 games away from home. Their first contest at The Jones Center in Springdale will come on Jan. 12 versus Arkansas Baptist.
 
Ecclesia is averaging 60.4 points per game while shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 29.0 percent from three-point range. They are coming off a 77-60 loss to Harding. Christian Ford is the top scorer for the Royals, averaging 14.7 points per contest. He put up a season-high 24 points against the University of the Science and Arts. The junior wing out of Shreveport is also averaging 6.5 rebounds per game.
 
THE SERIES
This will be the first ever meeting between LA Tech and Ecclesia College on the hardwood.  The Royals are the only opponent of the Bulldogs this season in which they have never played.
