Veterans Report to Tech Football Camp

RUSTON, La. - Thursday was busy at Joe Aillet Fieldhouse as over 60 veterans arrived at Louisiana Tech for the start of fall practice.

"It's nice to see all these guys back because it means we are about to get down to business," said Tech head coach Jack Bicknell. "We have fan day tomorrow morning and testing tomorrow night and then two-a-days start Saturday."

Included in the group of returners was the incumbent quarterback Brian Stallworth who looks to replace the record-setting Tim Rattay at the helm in 2000. The junior signal caller remained in Ruston during the summer to work out, increasing his bench press from 350 to 400 pounds.

"I really feel like I progressed this summer," Stallworth said. "Not only in the weight room, but also working with my receivers and just becoming a better leader. I'm looking forward to starting practice and getting ready for the season opener."

The former Istrouma High School prep star completed 29-of-49 passes for 490 yards and three touchdowns last year, including the memorable 28-yard score to Sean Cangelosi to beat Alabama.

Stallworth said the experience gained last year will be helpful the season. "There is no doubt that last year's success will give me confident heading into this season. I learned a lot from Tim (Rattay), but now it is my turn to step up and see what I can do to help this team win."

Two-a-days begin Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. at the Tech practice field at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex.
