Techsters Too Much for Boise State, 102-66
BOISE, Idaho - Trina Frierson scored 20 points to lead five Louisiana Tech players in double figures as the 11th ranked Lady Techsters (16-2, 8-0) downed Boise State 102-66 before 1,160 fans at The Pavilion Thursday night.
Cheryl Ford recorded her eighth straight double double in leagues games with 16 points and 14 rebounds while Amber Obaze added 16 points, Erica Smith 10 and Toya George 10.
Tech opened a 47-26 halftime lead thanks to hitting 71 percent (20-28) of its field goals while finishing the contest hitting a season-high 64 percent (43-67), including 9 of 15 from the three-point line.
"We are playing some pretty good basketball right now," said Tech head coach Kurt Budke. "We are shooting the basketball with a lot of confidence and that is exactly what we did tonight."
Frierson scored her 20 points in only 21 minutes of action while hitting 10 of 13 field goals, while Obaze connected on7 of her 10 attempts.
Freshman guard Tasha Crain, who made only her third career start after regular starting point guard Tamaka Clay came down with a stomach virus earlier in the day, scored nine points and registered a career-high 10 assists and zero turnovers in 24 minutes.
Tech outscored Boise State 62-22 in the paint while also registering 26 second change points. Freshman Aarica "Trey" Ray continued her assault from the three-point line, hitting three of four while Smith and George both hit a pair of three-pointers.
The Broncos hit 40 percent (24-60) of their field goals, including almost half of their second half attempts. The 66 points scored by Boise State were the most by a Western Athletic Conference team against Tech in 28 games.
"I am very impressed with Jen Warden and what she has done with this Boise State program in only her first year," Budke said. "They run an offense that is extremely hard to guard. They were simply overmatched inside and that's where we were able to take advantage of them."
Tech returns to action Saturday when they travel to face UTEP, a 71-69 winner over SMU Thursday. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. CST
