Obaze Named WAC Player of the Week
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech senior guard Amber Obaze was named the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week following her performance in the Lady Techster's 87-84 win over No. 6 ranked Penn State Sunday.
Obaze hit the biggest shot of the young season for Tech, sinking a 30-foot bank shot with 1.2 seconds remaining to give the Techsters the win, snapping Penn State's 24-game home winning streak.
For the game, Obaze scored 14 points, pulled down three rebounds, recorded two blocks and registered one assist in 29 minutes of action. After Penn State hit a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining to tie the game, Obaze took the inbounds pass, dribbled up the floor and hit the game winner.
Obaze was six of nine from the field, 1-of-2 from the free throw line and hit the only three-point attempt of the day in the closing moments. The Dallas, Texas, native also blocked a potential game-tying three-point attempt by Penn State's Kelly Mazzante with 17 seconds remaining.
