Four Bulldogs Sign Free Agent Contracts
RUSTON - Former Louisiana Tech running back Joe Smith, linebacker Curtis Randall, offensive tackle Damian Lavergne and offensive tackle Tywoin Breaux signed free agent contracts with respective NFL teams on Monday following this weekend's NFL Draft.
Smith and Randall both signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Smith rushed for 1,216 yards and 16 touchdowns during his senior season with the Bulldogs becoming the first Tech player to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark since 1994. The first team All-Western Athletic Conference selection rushed for over 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns in just two seasons with Tech.
Randall recorded 77 tackles for the Bulldogs last year, including 47 solo stops from his linebacker position. The first team All-WAC member ranked second on the team with 13.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and five pass break ups.
Lavergne inked a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles while his offensive line teammate Breaux signed with the Detroit Lions. Lavergne, a first team All-WAC selection, and Breaux both helped anchor a Tech offensive line that paved the way for Smith to rush for over 1,000 yards while also allowing Tech quarterbacks to pass for over 3,500 yards.
