Marquez Hired as Assistant Athletic Trainer

RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech has hired Anne Marquez as an assistant athletic trainer in the university?s sports medicine department.

Marquez will be in charge of women?s basketball and will assist head athletic trainer Robert Burns with additional areas of the unversity?s athletic training department, including insurance coordinating.

?We are very excited to add Anne to our staff,? Burns said. ?She?s a great addition to our developing program.?

Marquez comes to Louisiana Tech after serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., from August of 2001 through May of 2003. While at Northwestern State, Marquez worked with women?s basketball and football, performing evaluations on injuries, administering pre and post practice and game treatments and assisting with the rehabilitation of student-athletes? injuries.

?I?m really excited about this opportunity,? Marquez said. ?I?ve always had a goal to work with a program of the magnitude of Louisiana Tech?s.?

The Port Richey, Fla., native, who is NATABOC certified, also served as an instructor at Northwestern State, heading CPR and first aide courses for university students.

Prior to her days at Northwestern State, Marquez was a student athletic trainer at the University of West Florida in Pensacola for the 2000-01 school year, working with men?s and women?s cross country, women?s soccer and women?s softball.

Marquez earned her bachelor?s degree in sports medicine and athletic training in May of 2001 from the University of West Florida and completed her master?s of education with an emphasis in sports administration from Northwestern State in May of 2003.

Marquez's hiring is pending the approval of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.
