Techsters Ink Junior College Guard
RUSTON - Second year Louisiana Tech head coach Kurt Budke added to his already potent and deep arsenal of guards earlier this week when he signed junior college transfer Sarah Johnson to a national letter of intent.
Johnson joins the Lady Techster program after spending last season at Angelina Junior College where she helped lead the Roadrunners to a second place finish in the Texas East Conference behind No. 1 ranked Trinity Valley and ahead of nationally ranked Tyler.
Budke said the 5-foot-4-inch Johnson will bring a great enthusiasm and intensity to the Lady Techster program.
"People are going to love her," Budke said. "She brings to much love and energy to the game every time she plays. It's on every play and every minute. She absolutely loves the game."
Johnson, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, started every game at point guard for coach Dwan Coleman at Angelina and earned first team All-Texas East Conference honors after averaging 15.1 points and 5.2 assists per game.
As a prep star at Welsh High School in Welsh, La., Johnson helped lead the Greyhounds to the state playoffs all four years and the state quarterfinals twice while earning first team all-state honors her final three years. Johnson averaged over 22 points a game as a senior, including an impressive 30-plus points per game in district play.
"Every time I went and saw her play last year, she was just contagious in the energy and enthusiasm she brought to the game. That's going to be great for the rest of our team."
Johnson completes the 2003 recruiting class that includes guards Lakiste Barkus, Nastassja Levingston and Shan Moore and forward Tiffany Thompson.
