Louisiana Tech led No. 12 Boise State midway through the second quarter before the Broncos erupted for 45 unanswered points to clinch the Western Athletic Conference title with a 55-14 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos (10-0, 7-0 WAC) scored the game?s first 10 points before Tech took a 14-10 lead on a four-yard touchdown run by Matt Kubik and an 18-yard touchdown reception by Ryan Moats from Kubik, both coming in the second quarter.

The Broncos bottled up Moats all day long a as the junior carried 19 times for 60 yards and also caught two passes for 26 yards and one score. Moats did become only the second Louisiana Tech running back to ever rush for more than 3,000 yards in their career, doing so on a six-yard carry late in the first quarter.

Boise State led only 17-14 at the half and the game was still tight with the Broncos leading 20-14 with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter before three touchdowns over the next four minutes turned the contest into a one-sided affair.

Jon Helmandollar scored a school record five touchdowns for Boise State as he rushed for 91 yards on 10 carries. Boise State quarterback Jared Zabransky completed 20 of 30 for 317 yards and one touchdown.

Kubik finished the afternoon 14 of 29 for 120 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Youngstown, Ohio, native also added a career-high 57 yards rushing and one score.

Jeremy Hamilton led Tech defensively with 11 tackles and one sack, while Barry Robertson (nine tackles, three tackles for loss) and Chris Van Hoy (five tackles, two forced fumbles, two tackles for loss) also had good days for the Bulldog defense.

Tech ends the 2004 season Nov. 29 at Rice at 7 p.m. at Reliant Stadium.
