LORMAN, Miss. - Sophomore Ty Moore blocked a Rasaan Powell point-blank shot with :02 remaining as Louisiana Tech held on for a 62-61 win over Alcorn State before 400 fans at the Whitney Complex Monday night.

Tech won the game despite trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half and as many as eight points in the final five minutes.

"I am proud of the way the team found a way to win, but I'm not happy with the fact we missed too many easy shots and had too many turnovers," said Tech head coach Kurt Budke. "We worked all week on executing our offense and I thought we did a much better job of it but didn't make the easy shots. At some point our players have to step up and make some shots."

Moore's defensive heroics came after Alcorn State missed two front ends of one and one's in the final 40 seconds of the game. With Tech leading 62-61 in the final half minute, senior guard Lakiste Barkus missed a running jumper in the lane with :06 left and then was called for a personal foul which sent Powell to the free throw line.

Powell missed the front end of the one and one and the loose ball was tipped out of bounds off of a Techster player with 2.7 second left. After an Alcorn State timeout, the Lady Braves lobbed the inbounds pass underneath to Powell who had her potential game-winning shot blocked by Moore.

Tech led 28-20 at the 5:50 mark of the first half before Alcorn State went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 32-32 at the half. The Lady Braves then scored the first 12 points of the second half to take a 44-32 lead and eventually as much as a 47-34 lead.

During the 24-4 run which covered nine and a half minutes, Tech was only 2-of-15 from the field and committed seven turnovers.

The Techsters began their comeback cutting the Alcorn State lead to 47-40 at the 12:14 mark and then ultimately 53-51 at the 7:57 mark on a jumper by Crain.

However, the Lady Braves pushed the advantage back out to 59-51 with 5:24 to play. A Shan Moore three-pointer at the 5:08 mark made the score 59-54 and a Tamika Kursh jumper from the baseline cut the deficit to 59-56 with 3:35 left.

After a Tnonealyer Powers jumper increased the Alcorn State lead back to 61-56, Barkus hit a three-pointer at the 2:55 mark to make the score 61-59. Shan Moore scored the final three points on a free throw and a lay-up to give the Techsters the lead and the eventual win.

Shan Moore led Tech with 18 points and nine rebounds while Tasha Crain added 13 points.

Tech returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts Tennessee at 6:30 p.m.
