EUGENE, Oregon ? Oklahoma hit 11 three-pointers, including five by guard Erin Higgins, to down Louisiana Tech 86-59 at McArthur Court Saturday afternoon.
The Sooners hit six first half treys to build a 35-21 halftime advantage and then made 62 percent of their field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes to offset any attempt by Louisiana Tech to stage a comeback.
?You have to give a lot of credit to Oklahoma,? said Tech head coach Kurt Budke. ?I don?t think I?ve ever seen a basketball team shoot three-pointers as well as they did today.
?However, I can also say that this is the first time this year that I?ve been disappointed in our effort throughout the game. I didn?t feel like we came to play. We have about three players who have bought into what we are trying to do and when all of them start to do that, we will become a better basketball team.?
After Tech opened the game with a Margaret Deciman layup at the 19:51 mark, Oklahoma answered with three straight three-pointers to take a 9-2 lead, one it would never relinquish.
Tech managed to fight back and cut the deficit to 15-14 at the 10:39 mark before Oklahoma finished the first half on a 20-7 run. The Lady Techsters hit only 25 percent (5-20) of their first half field goals while committing 14 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Both teams traded buckets early in the second half and after Tamika Kursh?s layup with 15:21 to play made it 44-29, Oklahoma ran off an 18-5 scoring spree to put the game out of reach with 10 minutes remaining.
Tasha Crain led Tech with 15 points, while Shan Moore added 14 points and Lakiste Barkus chipped in with 10. Kursh also had one of her better games for Tech, scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds before fouling out with two minutes to play.
?Tamika has had two straight games where she has really battled and played with everything she has,? Budke said. ?If the entire team had played with her intensity and aggressiveness, we would have made it a game. I was proud of her.?
Higgins led Oklahoma with 19 points, while Dionnah Jackson added 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Tech opens Western Athletic Conference play Dec. 30 when the Lady Techsters host Tulsa at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
