Techsters Look for 14th Straight Win
BOISE, Idaho - Louisiana Tech will attempt to win its 14th straight game Saturday when the sixth-ranked Lady Techsters visit Boise State at 3 p.m. CST at The Pavilion.
Tech (21-2, 14-1 WAC) hasn't lost since an 87-84 overtime loss Rice Jan. 5 and a win by the Lady Techsters against the Broncos would set up a showdown against Rice for the Western Athletic Conference championship title next Thursday at home.
Boise State (8-17, 5-11 WAC) had lost nine of its last 10 games before defeating Southern Methodist by 19 points Thursday night. The Broncos will be looking for their first win against Louisiana Tech, having lost the previous seven meetings against the Lady Techsters.
"There is no way we as a coaching staff are going to let our team take anyone lightly at this point of the season," said Techster head coach Kurt Budke. "There is too much at stake as far as the WAC regular season title, seeding in the conference tournament and of course the NCAA Tournament. Our players will be ready and focused."
The Techsters were impressive Thursday night in downing UTEP 83-60 at the Don Haskins Center as four Tech players scored in double figures in the victory. Senior forward Amisha Carter continued her recent offensive tear, scoring a game-high 22 points, including 21 in the second half.
In her last eight games, Carter has eclipsed the 20-point plateau seven times while averaging 22.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Carter and senior forward Trina Frierson have been almost unstoppable lately as both have hit over 60 percent of their field goal attempts in the last eight contests.
Boise State is led by sophomore forward Jamie Hawkins who is averaging 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest and is coming off a 19-point, 11-rebound performance in the win over the Mustangs.
Tech defeated Boise State 95-57 back on Jan. 29 in Ruston.
