Alexander Qualifies for NCAA Indoor ChampionshipsRUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech track and field standout Ayanna Alexander will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in the triple jump.
Alexander is seeded 11th and is coming off a school record jump of 13.21 meters at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on February 27th.
17 student athletes are in the triple jump field, with Nebraska's Ineta Rediva holding the top qualifying mark of 13.72 meters.
"This is tremendous honor and accomplishment for Ayanna and Coach Jackson, the jumps coach," said Tech track and field coach
Gary Stanley. "She obviously had a huge part in helping our women's team to a second place finish in the WAC and hopefully she can have a good performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend."
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track on Friday and Saturday.
The women's triple jump will take place on Saturday, beginning at 4:10 p.m.
The outdoor track and field season begins for Tech next Wednesday when it hosts the Tech Twilight. The running event finals will start at 4 p.m. with field events starting earlier in the day at 1 p.m.
