Louisiana Tech, Duke Set for Regional Semifinal

NORFOLK, Va. - Louisiana Tech has plenty of history in Norfolk, Va.

On Sunday, the fifth-ranked Lady Techsters (29-2) hope to make a little more when they face the No. 1 ranked Duke Blue Devils (29-3) at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at 11 a.m. CST.

The game will be the first of two Mideast Regional Semifinals as the No. 3 seed Boston College Eagles face the No. 7 seed Minnesota Gophers 30 minutes after the completion of the early game. The winners of the two games will face off Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CST.

During Saturdays press conferences both Louisiana Tech head coach Kurt Budke and Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors were complimentary of their respective opponent.

"This is a tremendous regional," Goestenkors said. "We're very excited to be here and Louisiana Tech is a great team. I feel they're here to prove a point and get the respect they deserve. I've always respected them. There's nothing worse than playing against a great team that feels like they have something to prove."

Duke enters the contest with a 12-game winning streak as the Blue Devils haven't lost since a road setback against Florida State Feb. 4. Led by three-time All-American Alana Beard, the Blue Devils will be playing their eighth game against a Top 25 opponent.

"I've said all along that I believe Duke is the team to beat if you want to win the national championships," Budke said. "It starts with Alana Beard; she is a tremendous player. However, they have 10 McDonald's All-Americans on their roster. They are just very deep and very talented."

Statistically, both teams are almost mirror images of each other and each one boasts four players averaging double figures. Tech and Duke rank No. 2 and No.3 in the nation in offense, both scoring over 80 points per game.

The game can be seen on ESPN and heard on the Louisiana Tech Radio Network on KXKZ-FM 107.5 and via the Internet at www.z1075fm.com.
