BoxscoreBATON ROUGE, La. - Three first place finishes and eight NCAA regional qualifying marks highlighted a superb performance by the Louisiana Tech track and field teams at the LSU Relays on Saturday.
Doria Appleberry, Shaterika Allen and Brenda-Grace Hunt all won their respect events while posting NCAA regional marks.
Appleberry (13.68) won the 100-meter hurdles with a regional time although she ran a fast time of 13.57 in Friday?s prelims.
?It was a very good meet for us,? said Tech head coach
Gary Stanley. ?The relays had some exchange problems but other than that it was very productive as we continue to look toward our goal of peaking in May at the WAC Championships.?
Allen (48 ?) continued her solid season with a first place finish in the women?s shot put. The sophomore is coming off a WAC title during the indoor season.
Hunt took first place with a mark fo 154-9, which is a regional qualifying mark. It was Hunt?s first competition of the season.
Stefan Malmqvist had an outstanding run in the 1,500 meters to finish third with a time of 3:47.99, also a NCAA regional qualifying performance.
Shandra Freeman posted a NCAA regional qualifying time in the prelims while finishing second in the 100 meters final on Saturday.
Kinsey Dinnel finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:34.09) .
Jason Morgan finished second in the men?s shot put and discus throw. His discus mark of 174-6 is a NCAA regional qualifying mark.
Ayanna Alexander came in third in the triple jump with a leap of 41-1. It was also a NCAA regional mark.
This is the last meet that football players Mark Dillard and Johnathan Holland will take part in until after spring football practice which begins on Monday. Holland came in third in the 100 meters but did post a NCAA regional mark in the prelims (10.57).
?Both of the football players have worked very hard in the time we have had with them,? said Stanley. ?We expect them to rejoin us after football?s spring practice period is over.?
Tech will return to action next weekend at the Mississippi State Bulldog Relays.
