Long Completes Staff With Former Techster and Husband Duo

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech head coach Chris Long announced Thursday that he has added former Lady Techster Brooke Lassiter Stoehr and her husband Scott Stoehr to his staff.

Their hiring is pending the approval of the Louisiana Tech Athletic Council and the Board of Directors for the University of Louisiana System.

Brooke Stoehr - known as Brooke Lassiter during her Techster playing days - will serve as one of Long's three assistant coaches while Scott Stoehr will serve as the Director of Basketball Operations for Tech.

The husband-wife tandem - who were married in August of 2004 - served as the top two assistant coaches for Joe Foley at Arkansas-Little Rock this past season. The duo helped guide a Trojan basketball program that is in a rebuilding stage after resuming women's basketball only six years ago to a 10-19 record, the most wins since the rebirth of the program.

"Wow. I am so excited to have Brooke back at Louisiana Tech," Long said. "I love her, the fans love her, our players will love her and future recruits will love her. She possesses an incredible determination to excel at a high level no matter what she does. She has a fire that few people have. There is no one that loves this program more than Brooke."

Brooke Stoehr was a member of Foley's staff for two seasons after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Florida State for one year under Sue Semrau. At Arkansas-Little Rock, the Portland, Ark., native assisted with coaching the Trojan guards, recruiting, coordinating and assisting with preseason individual workouts and working Joe Foley's summer camps.

"I am both honored and thankful for the opportunity to work for Chris Long," Brooke Stoehr said. "I believe in him and his ability to lead this program back to the top of the women's game. The four years I spent as a member of this program and as a member of the Ruston community were some of the best years of my life. My time afforded me much more than I ever dreamed.

"My desire is to work endlessly to give back to the program, Louisiana Tech University and the community as much as I possibly can. Scott and I are thrilled about this opportunity."

As a member of Tech's staff, Long said Brooke Stoehr will be responsible for recruiting Louisiana and Arkansas, serving as the academic coordinator, coaching the Lady Techster guards as well as being heavily involved in scouting and other aspects of on-the-floor coaching..

Following an outstanding prep career at Hamburg (Ark.) High School where she was named to the PARADE All-American team and was the Arkansas and Southwest Region Gatorade Player of the Year, Brooke Stoehr signed with Louisiana Tech.

While donning the Lady Techster uniform for four years (1998-2002), Brooke Stoehr served as a two-year captain and starting point guard as a junior and senior while leading Louisiana Tech to a mark of 119-16. She was instrumental in leading Tech to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including one Final Four (1999) appearance and two more Elite Eight appearances.

Louisiana Tech won four regular season and conference tournament titles during her four years while losing only one conference game.

Brooke Stoehr ended her collegiate career as the NCAA all-time career free throw percentage leader at 91.5 percent, hitting 268 of 292 career free throws.

She earned her bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech in business administration in 2002 and her master's degree in sports administration from Florida State in 2004.

Scott Stoehr comes to Louisiana Tech with a wealth of Division I coaching experience after stints at North Texas, Florida State and Arkansas-Little Rock.

"Scott brings eight years of Division I coaching experience with him," Long said. "He will be outstanding in the role of Director of Basketball Operations. He has numerous contacts in the state of Texas and has excelled everywhere he has been. He has handled about every responsibility in college coaching at one time or another and will be invaluable to this staff."

"The thing that stands out about Scott is his integrity, work ethic and intelligence. Those attributes will serve him well at Louisiana Tech."

Prior to his one year at Arkansas-Little Rock, Scott Stoehr spent two different stints as an assistant for Coach Tina Slinker at North Texas. During his time in Denton, he helped lead North Texas to its most successful period in the program's history, including three Conference Division titles and two post-season tournament appearances.

Between his two stints at North Texas, Scott Stoehr spent one year as an assistant coach at Florida State in 2002-2003, which is when he met his wife. During that one season, he helped lead the Seminoles to their second highest win total ever and its second post-season berth as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Long said Scott Stoehr's responsibilities as the Director of Basketball Operations would include team travel and the overall daily operation of the women's basketball office.

"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to work at Louisiana Tech University for Chris Long," Scott Stoehr said. "The unmatched tradition of the Lady Techster program along with Chris' vision for the future makes this an unbelievable opportunity to be a part of a truly special place."

During his time in the Division I coaching ranks, Scott Stoehr's responsibilities have included being responsible for all aspects of recruiting, practice and game preparation including scouting reports and organizing game plans, coordination of pre and postseason work outs and film break down.

He was instrumental this past year in signing four players for UALR, including the district most valuable player from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

The Plattsmouth, Nebraska, native earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1997 and his masters in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports administration from North Texas in 1999.

Brooke and Scott Stoehr join Katie Hall, Joni Crenshaw and Stephen Pate on Long's staff.
