HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Tasha Williams led five Louisiana Tech players in double figures as the Lady Techsters downed Hawaii 71-66 in overtime Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
However, with Williams on the bench for the final four minutes of overtime after fouling out with a game-high 18 points, forwards Tamika Kursh and Ty Moore stepped up and led Tech (11-3, 3-0 WAC) to its sixth straight victory.
Kursh, who played only two minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, converted a conventional three-point play with 3:25 to play in overtime to give Louisiana Tech a 64-60 advantage.
On the Lady Techsters next possession, Moore scored on a turnaround jumper while drawing a foul and although the 6-foot-2-inch forward missed the free throw, Tech took its biggest of lead of the game since midway through the first half at 66-60.
Hawaii (10-3, 1-1 WAC) closed to within 66-62 on a jumper by Alofa Toiaivao but Moore answered with another tough jumper from the block, giving Tech a 68-62 lead and control of the game.
?We didn?t play our best but we made the plays late in the game which enabled us to win the game. We?ve played a lot of tight games this year, and I think we were able to hold our composure and made the plays when it counted at the end.?
Tech looked to take control of the game in the first half, jumping out to a 21-10 lead at the 9:31 mark of the opening stanza on a Williams jumper. However, Williams, who scored nine of her points in the first half, picked up her second personal foul and sat the remainder of the half.
With the reigning WAC player of the year on the bench, Hawaii responded with a 19-5 run and took a 29-26 lead with 2:34 to play on a free throw by Dalia Solia.
Tech fought back and took a 33-31 lead into the locker room.
The second half was close throughout as neither team took more than a four point lead at any point during the 20 minutes. Tech led 58-54 with just over two minutes remaining before Hawaii tied the game on a Pam Tambini layup with 1:39 to play.
Both teams had an opportunity to regain the lead down the stretch in regulation. Ty Moore had the final opportunity to end the game in regulation but her short jumper at the buzzer fell short as the two teams went to an extra period.
Aarica Ray-Boyd and Eboni Mangum scored 12 points each for Tech while Shan Moore and Ty Moore added 10 points apiece.
Tambini led Hawaii with 16 points while Brittany Grice and Alofa Toiaivao added 14 points each.
