Techsters Down Idaho, 75-68
Boxscore
RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech had just a little Moore than Idaho Saturday night as the Lady Techsters downed the Vandals 75-68 before 3,027 fans at the Thomas Assembly Center.
A little Ty Moore and a little Shan Moore that is. The duo each scored 16 points and led Tech in rebounding as the Lady Techsters won their 105th straight regular season conference game in Ruston.
With Tech (10-3, 2-0 WAC) holding onto a slim 66-63 lead, Ty Moore pulled down an offensive rebound in traffic and hit a tough off-balance shot to up the Lady Techsters advantage to 68-63.
On Tech?s next possession, Ty Moore pulled down her game-high 12th rebound of the night off a Tamika Kursh missed free throw and dished the ball to a wide open Aarica Ray-Boyd who drained a three-pointer with 1:23 to play, giving Tech a 71-63 lead.
?Ty has come such a long way during her career,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?She has improved in so many areas, but she still has another level she can get to. I?m so proud of her but I want to see her get to that next level.?
Any chance of an Idaho comeback was sniffed out by the free throw shooting of Shan Moore, who hit 4-of-4 in the final 0:17 of play. The Minden product posted her second consecutive good offensive performance, hitting 5-of-11 field goals and 6-of-6 free throws in 32 minutes of action. Shan Moore also pulled down a season-high nine rebounds.
?It?s been a confidence issue with Shan,? Long said. ?I think early in the year she really didn?t trust her knee and that hurt her and then she was struggling shooting the basketball. The last few games she has looked like the player we know she is.?
The Moore?s led a balanced Techster offensive attack that saw Ray-Boyd add 11 points, Eboni Mangum 10 points, Tasha Williams eight points and Tamika Kursh and Amber Metoyer six points.
It also off-set an impressive offensive output by Idaho?s Leilani Mitchell and Emily Faurholt, who entered the game ranked No. 1 and 2 in the WAC in scoring. Faurholt scored 26 points while Mitchell added 25 points to keep the Vandals within striking range all night.
?People (back in Idaho) will have no idea what a high level basketball game this was until Louisiana Tech comes to our place in February,? said Vandals head coach Mike Divilbiss. ?Our kids gave it everything they had. Louisiana Tech had 16 offensive rebounds (which hurt) but they are so athletic.
?They?ve only lost 26 games in Ruston during their program?s (32-year) history. I?m so proud of our kids and what they did. We didn?t allow them to knock us out; we kept fighting.?
Faurholt hit 9-of-21 field goals, including 5-of-8 from the three-point line, while Mitchell connected on 7-of-19 field goals and 9-of-10 free throws.
?Idaho is such a tough team to prepare for in only two days,? Long said. ?They are so well coached and run their offensive sets so well. I give them a lot of credit. I told our players (prior to the game) that we wouldn?t face any other team this year that plays as hard as Idaho does.?
Tech returns to action Thursday when the Lady Techsters travel to Hawaii to face the Rainbow Wahine at 11 p.m. CST.
