Moore Steps Up in Techster Win

Boxscore

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? Trailing 54-51 with less than a minute to play, Louisiana Tech senior guard Shan Moore came up big and led the Lady Techsters to a 60-54 win over Mississippi State Tuesday night.

Moore scored 17 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, including six in the decisive 9-0 run over the final 52 seconds of the contest.

?I?m so proud of this team,? said Tech head coach Chris Long said. ?We could have easily lost this game, but we found a way to make plays and win. Shan really came up big for us and I thought she had a great attitude from the start.

?She came into the locker room during pre-game warm-ups and say, ?Coach, the losing stops tonight.? She was good to her word.?

After Imesia Jackson?s short turnaround jumper in the lane gave Mississippi State a 54-51 lead with 1:09 to play, Moore drove the right baseline and hit a lay-up to make the score 54-53 with 0:52 to play.

Twenty seconds later, Moore stepped in front of a Mississippi State pass and took it the length of the court to give Tech a 55-54 lead with 0:30 to play.

Tech hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 0:24 of play to seal the win and snap its four-game losing streak.

Trailing 33-25 at the half, Tech held Mississippi State to only 7-of-30 shooting over the final 20 minutes of play.

?I thought defensively we played extremely well, especially in the second half,? Long said. ?We knew if we kept them from scoring in transition, we could cause them trouble and we did.?

Ty Moore added 14 points and nine rebounds for Tech, which won for the first time ever in Starkville.

Jackson led State with 11 points while Bethany Washington added 10.

Tech returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Alabama at the Thomas Assembly Center at 7 p.m.
