TUCSON ? Arizona used a 16-0 run early in the game and held off a Louisiana Tech rally to down the Lady Techsters 74-59 before 1,901 fans at McKale Center Sunday afternoon.

Arizona dominated the Lady Techsters on the glass in the second half to keep Tech at arms reach.

?We just aren?t a very good basketball team right now,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?Until we have some of our seniors step up and show leadership and toughness, we won?t be very good. Arizona wanted it more, especially in the second half.?

After Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an Amber Metoyer layup, Arizona hit 6-of-7 shots, including a pair of three-pointers, to grab a 16-2 advantage at the 15:30 mark of the opening period.

The Wildcats (5-3) extended the lead to 25-9 on a jumper by Shannon Hobson at the 11:28 mark of the first half before Tech (2-5) used a 16-3 run to pull within 28-25 on a three-pointer by Eboni Mangum with 4:41 to play.

?I thought we did a good job of bouncing back and making it a game,? Long said. ?I was proud of our kids for that, but that?s not enough. Losing is not acceptable.?

Down 36-30 at the half, Tech cut the deficit to 36-31 on a free throw by Ty Moore but then went cold. Moore?s jumper with 15:46 to play was the first basket of the second half for Tech but by then the Techsters were down double digits again.

Any chance of Long and Co. mounting a comeback was doused by 29 Tech turnovers and 17 second half offensive rebounds by the Wildcats.

?A lot of our turnovers were what I consider unforced,? Long said. ?We have to get better at taking care of the basketball.?

Ty Moore led Tech with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Mangum added 12 and Shan Moore and Jo Sneed each scored 10 points. Sierra Nixon added six points and 11 rebounds for Tech.

Joy Hollingsworth and Ashley Whisonant led Arizona with 22 points each while Hobson added 16 points.

Tech returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Kansas State at 7 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
