Techsters Fall to Warhawks
Boxscore
MONROE ? Louisiana Tech head coach Chris Long had mixed emotions following his team?s 58-54 loss to Louisiana-Monroe Friday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
He was mad that his team had allowed the Warhawks to come back from a 13-point first half deficit to win; however, he was also frustrated because his team had executed offensively ?as well as we have all year.?
?We got the shots we wanted,? Long said. ?We didn?t turn the ball over. We ran our sets; we reversed the basketball; we did everything offensively we needed to ? except make shots.?
Louisiana Tech (2-7) outrebounded UL-Monroe, made two more field goals and recorded three more assists than turnovers; however, it wasn?t enough to offset making only 11-of-22 free throws and only 34 percent (21-62) of its shots in the four-point setback.
Two key offensive droughts spelled doom for Tech. Leading 24-11 on a three-pointer by Shan Moore with 5:07 to play in the first half, Tech failed to score the remainder of the half as UL-Monroe cut the deficit to 24-16 at the half.
Tech held UL-Monroe to just 5-of-27 shooting in the opening 20 minutes of play.
?That just killed us,? Long said. ?We had an opportunity to push it out to 16 or so at the half but we couldn?t score. We held them to only five field goals in the half, but were only up eight because of our inability to score.?
Tech led 36-30 with 14:26 to play on a Ty Moore jumper before the Warhawks (9-1) used a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to grab a 45-36 lead. During that run, Tech was 0-for-9 from the field.
Ty Moore led the Techster comeback, scoring six points in a 9-2 Techster run that cut the deficit to 47-45. However, Tech would get no closer than two and missed on opportunities to tie the game in the final two minutes.
UL-Monroe hit 14-of-27 field goals in the second half while Tech made 13-of-36. The Techsters also made only 4-of-12 free throws in the final half while the Warhawks hits 12-of-16.
Ty Moore led Tech with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
