Boxscore
RUSTON ? Shan Moore and Ty Moore each scored 15 points to lead 20th ranked Louisiana Tech to a 66-53 win over New Mexico State before 2,478 fans at the Thomas Assembly Center Thursday night.
Tech (21-4, 13-1 WAC) hit 24-of-37 free throws and outrebounded the Aggies 51-33 while registering its 109th straight regular season conference win at home.
?This definitely wasn?t a very pretty win,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?We didn?t play with the intensity or energy we needed. Give New Mexico State credit; they kept competing and we just never got into a groove offensively.?
Ty Moore hit 7-of-9 field goals while registering her ninth double double of the season while Shan Moore hit 11-of-11 free throws and added seven rebounds.
Tech hit 48 percent of its field goals in the opening 20 minutes of play while building a 35-18 lead on a pair of Eboni Mangum free throws with 1:52 to play. However, New Mexico State scored the final six points of the half and entered the halftime locker room trailing only 35-24.
?We built (a 17-point lead) late in the first half but then basically played the last five minutes with most of our starters on the bench in foul trouble,? Long said. ?That allowed them to get back in it.?
Behind the three-point shooting of Cecilia Russell-Nava, who ended the game with five three-pointers and a career-high 23 points, New Mexico State (7-18, 4-10) kept the contest relatively close throughout the second half. A pair of free throws by Sherrell Neal with 9:48 to play closed the gap to 48-39, the closest the Aggies would get.
Tech used a 12-3 run over the next three minutes to build its biggest lead of the game at 60-42 with 6:11 to play.
For the contest, Tech held the Aggies to only 26 percent (15-57) shooting and held New Mexico State?s leading scorer Irma Kmitaite to zero points on 0-of-4 shooting.
?I thought defensively we played well,? Long said. ?Anytime you hold someone to only 26 percent shooting, you?ve done your job. Russell-Nava made us pay a couple of times; she also hit a couple of long three-pointers where honestly you almost shouldn?t have been guarding her.?
Tech guard Tasha Williams added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
