Boise State Snaps Techsters Home Win Streak
RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech entered Saturday night?s game having won 114 straight regular season conference games at the Thomas Assembly Center, a streak that dated back almost 15 years.
Boise State didn?t let that bother them.
The Broncos (13-4, 4-0 WAC) hit nine three-pointers and held Louisiana Tech (7-9, 2-1 WAC) to only 32 percent shooting in downing the Lady Techsters 68-47 before 2,027 fans.
?They shot the eyes out of it early, and we got behind,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?I knew coming in they were going to be tough to defend, and they were. They have four players on the court at all time who can shoot it from the perimeter and so you just can?t help.
?Even when we started playing better defensively and slowly them down, we just couldn?t score. You have to give them a lot of credit. They really executed.?
Tech never led in the contest in falling for the first time at home against a conference team in regular season play since New Orleans defeated the Lady Techsters 69-54 on Jan. 30, 1992.
Boise State hit 10 of their first 17 shots from the field including four three-pointers and built an early 25-8 lead midway through the opening half. Rebecca Kepilino and Jessica Thompson were hot early as the duo combined to score 20 points while leading Boise State to a 37-20 halftime lead.
?I thought we did a better job late in the first half and early in the second half of defending them,? Long said. ?However, we never could get going offensively so we simply weren?t able to make a run.?
During the final eight minutes of the first half and the first eight minutes of the second half ? a 16-minute stretch ? Tech held Boise State to only 14 points but the Lady Techsters only scored 11 points during that time ending any real opportunity to get back into the game.
Thompson led Boise State with 14 points while Kepilino, Jackie Lee and Tasha Harris each scored 12 as the Broncos took over sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference.
Ty Moore was Louisiana Tech?s only double digit scorer, registering her eighth double double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Tech? shooting woes weren?t limited to the field as the Lady Techsters made only 10-of-23 free throws and only 1-of-11 three-pointers in the game. Tech did outrebound Boise State 43-36.
The Lady Techsters return to action Monday when they host Utah State at 7 p.m.
