Tech Rebounds In Win

Boxscore

RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech rebounded in more ways than one Monday night as the Lady Techsters downed Utah State 69-54 at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Tech (8-9, 3-1 WAC), which lost Saturday night at home against Boise State, outrebounded the Aggies 51-29 en route to the 15-point victory.

?We did a great job on both the offensive and defensive boards,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?It was one of the keys to this game.
?Utah State is a tough team to defend, and we did a nice job of it. They?ve got two of the fastest guards in our league and they ran our guards off of on-ball screens all night long, but we did a great job of defending them. I think the job we did defensively was also a key.?

Ty Moore scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Amber Metoyer added eight points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Techsters to the dominating performance on the glass.

In addition to shooting 43 percent (28-64) from the field, Tech pulled down 19 offensive rebounds which enabled the Lady Techsters to get multiple opportunities on numerous trips down the court.

Tech led 32-27 at the half and used a 12-3 run to open the second stanza to grab what appeared to be a comfortable 44-30 lead with 16:34 to play. However, Utah State fought back behind a 13-2 run of its own over the next five minutes, cutting the Tech advantage down to three.

Eboni Mangum and Nastassja Levingston combined to score the next 11 points for Tech as the Lady Techsters pushed the advantage back out to 57-47 with less than five minutes to play. Utah State wouldn?t get any closer the rest of the game.

Tech jumped out to an early 10-4 lead before Utah State tied the game at 12-12 on a jumper by Brittany Phillips with 12:49 to play in the opening half. However, junior forward JoKeirra Sneed scored seven of her 12 points during a 16-6 run that gave Tech a 28-18 advantage at the 4:03 mark of the half.

Utah State ended the half on a 9-4 run, cutting the Tech advantage in half heading into the locker room.

Jenny Gross and Brittany Phillips each led Utah State with 12 points while Taylor Richards scored 10 points, added seven assists and six rebounds for the Aggies.

Tech returns to action Thursday at home against Nevada at 7 p.m.
