Boxscore
SAN JOSE, Calif. ? Louisiana Tech used a 17-2 run spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second half to down San Jose State 65-52 before 326 fans at The Events Center Thursday night in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Despite shooting only 31 percent (22-71) for the game, Tech (6-8, 1-0 WAC) won for the fourth time in five games and was victorious in its conference opener for a 16th straight year, the longest such streak in the nation.
?It was one of those nights where we just didn?t shoot the basketball well,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?We started out slow, and just never really got it going. We had plenty of good looks; we got the ball inside plenty, but we just didn?t shoot well.
?However, we still won the game. We shot only 31 percent and we still won by 13 on the road. We settled down and played pretty well defensively, and that?s why we won.?
San Jose State (1-14, 0-1 WAC) led throughout the first half as Tech didn?t take its first lead of the game until Jo Sneed?s layup at the 3:57 mark of the opening half gave the Lady Techsters a 24-23 lead.
Trailing 23-17 with 6:50 to play in the first half, Tech ended the stanza with an 11-2 run and then opened the second half with a 6-0 run to take a 34-25 lead.
After San Jose State cut the deficit to 36-31, Tech pushed the advantage out to double digits at 46-36 and never looked back as the Lady Techsters improved to 11-0 all-time against the Spartans.
Tech held San Jose State to only 28 percent (19-67) shooting and outrebounded the Spartans 58-47.
Shan Moore led Tech with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Ty Moore added 10 points and 11 rebounds and Sneed chipped in with 10 points and 10 boards. Amber Metoyer scored only two points, but added a career-high 12 rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks in 37 minutes.
Natalie White led San Jose State with 20 points and eight rebounds while Brittany Powell scored 10 points.
Tech returns to action Saturday night at Hawaii at 11 p.m. CST.
