HONOLULU ? Louisiana Tech used a second half run to propel itself to a 64-53 win over Hawaii late Saturday night before 1044 fans at the Stan Sheriff Center.

After a Janevia Taylor jumper at the 18:43 mark of the second half gave the Rainbow Wahine a 31-26 lead, Tech (7-8, 2-0 WAC) outscored Hawaii (6-8, 0-2 WAC) 31-5 over the next 13 minutes to take a commanding 57-36 with just over five minutes to play.

During that run, Tech held the Rainbow Wahine to 1-for-17 shooting while forcing eight turnovers while the Lady Techsters hit 12-of-20 field goals during the same span.

?Even in the first half when we were trailing (by 11), I never felt like we were out of it or that the kids felt down,? said Tech head coach Chris Long. ?This was a fun game to coach. We did some good things offensively from an execution standpoint. We pushed the basketball in transition, and we continued to play great defense.

?Hawaii is a good basketball team. This was a good win for us on the road. I couldn?t be happier for our players.?

Early in the contest, Hawaii was the team in control. After a Ty Moore turnaround jumper in the lane gave Tech an early 2-0 lead, Hawaii used a 6-0 run to take the lead and the Rainbow Wahine would not relinquish it in the first half.

A 9-0 Hawaii run midway through the opening half gave it a 23-12 advantage at the 7:14 mark of the half. However, Tech closed the opening stanza on a 12-4 run of its own and only trailed 27-24 at the half.

?We really locked them down defensively late in the first half and then throughout the second half,? Long said. ?We continue to play well defensively.?

Ty Moore led Tech with 15 points and 10 rebounds ? her WAC-leading seventh double double of the year ? while Shan Moore, JoKeirra Sneed and Sierra Nixon each added 11 points in the win.

For the game, Tech hit 43 percent (23-54) of its field goals, including an impressive 52 percent (13-25) in the second half as it outscored Hawaii 40-26.

Hawaii hit only 32 percent (21-66) of its field goals and was outrebounded by Tech 41-40.

Tanya Smith led Hawaii with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Tech returns to action Saturday when the Lady Techsters host Boise State at 7 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
