RUSTON, La. ? The Western Athletic Conference announced the 2007 All-WAC football team Monday, and seven Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were included. Tech punter Chris Keagle and safety Antonio Baker were named to the first team. Offensive lineman Tyler Miller, running back Patrick Jackson, linebacker Quin Harris and defensive linemen Josh Muse and Chris Pugh were named to the second team.
?It seems like the one constant every year is the more success you have as a team, the more individual recognition your players receive,? said Tech coach Derek Dooley. ?I think all seven of our guys were very deserving. I think the league coaches recognized the success we had as a team by voting for our players. It shows that our program is moving in the right direction.?
Keagle led the WAC in punting average and net punting this season. Baker led the Bulldogs in tackles and finished fifth in the conference in total tackles. Miller anchored an offensive line that helped Jackson have the 10th best season in Tech history with 950 yards rushing. Harris led the conference in passes defended and was 10th in total tackles. Pugh finished third in sacks with 6.5 and second in tackles for loss with 12.5 this season, and Muse had eight tackles for loss along with 4.5 sacks.
Tech tied Idaho for the most members of the second team with five. The Bulldogs went 4-4 in conference play this year, a three-game improvement from last season.
Hawaii?s Colt Brennan was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Fresno State linebacker Marcus Riley earned Defensive Player of the Year. Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick was named Freshman of the Year, and Hawaii?s June Jones was named Coach of the Year for a second straight year.
As a request to WAC Commissioner Karl Benson to share player of the year honors with ?his boys,? Brennan and his four main receivers Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen, C.J. Hawthorne and Jason Rivers were named Offensive Unit of the Year by the conference.
