Bradshaw, Malone Speak to Dawgs
RUSTON -- The Louisiana Tech football team took a trip down legend lane over the past few days as Terry Bradshaw spoke to the team Monday while in town for the annual Terry Bradshaw/Kix Brooks Golf Tournament at Squire Creek.
Just two days after former NBA great and Tech alum Karl Malone addressed the squad following Saturday?s practice at Joe Aillet Stadium, Bradshaw ? one of only two quarterbacks to win four Super Bowls ? spoke to the group in the Dr. Guthrie Jarrell Room of the Charles Wyly Athletic Center Monday afternoon.
?One thing I want you guys to remember is I love you, and I?m pulling for you,? Bradshaw told the players and coaching staff. ?I keep up with ya?ll during the season. Anytime you are on TV, I?m watching.
?There?s nothing I like more on a Sunday in the studio than talking about Louisiana Tech pulling off a big win.?
Bradshaw addressed the team for approximately 10 minutes before opening the forum up for a question and answer session with the team during which he was asked about some of his favorite games and players as well as what kept him motivated during his career.
?Just my sheer love for the game,? Bradshaw said.
Prior to talking to the team, Bradshaw spent 30 minutes with the local media conducting a press conference in the display area of the Wyly Athletic Center, the home to Bradshaw?s four Super Bowl rings, Hall of Fame bust and other memorabilia he donated back to his alma mater last spring.
?From all the things I?ve ever done, (making that donation) has gotten the most attention,? Bradshaw told the packed room. ?I?ve gotten all kinds of emails, phone calls and comments from people I meet. I like (having the memorabilia) right here.?
When asked about new Bulldog head coach Derek Dooley, Bradshaw said he was impressed.
?He?s smart,? Bradshaw said. ?I spent two hours with him last night and I?m really impressed. The school stepped up (by hiring him). (Former Dallas Cowboys head coach) Jimmy Johnson had good things to say about Derek, and I feel the program is in good hands.?
Dooley said having former Louisiana Tech legends like Bradshaw and Malone address his team is invaluable for the players.
"Terry and Karl are great ambassadors for Louisiana Tech," Dooley said. "They are not only respected as great competitors, but they also represent themselves with dignity and class in all aspects of their life. Those are the values all of our players should strive to have.?
