Tech's Porter Receives WAC Award

Oct. 20, 2008

RUSTON-Louisiana Tech junior running back Daniel Porter has been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulldogs 46-14 win over Idaho this weekend.

Porter, a junior from Baton Rouge, La. (Istrouma), rushed for a season-high 145 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Porter, who also added one catch for six yards, scored on runs of 1 and 17 yards. Tech gained a total of 364 yards on the ground, the third most by a WAC team this year and the fifth most in school history.

Porter was chosen over quarterback Kellen Moore, Boise State; running back Vai Taua, Nevada; and tailback Yonus Davis, San Jose State. This is his first such honor and the first time a Tech player has been named WAC Offensive Player of the Week this season

Boise State cornerback Brandyn Thompson and Boise State placekicker/punter Kyle Brotzman were named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.

Louisiana Tech sophomore defensive tackle Mason Hitt received a nomination for defensive player of the week and junior running back Myke Compton received a nomination for special teams player of the week.
