AUBURN, Ala. -- After another successful meet last weekend, Louisiana Tech's cross country team will look for another good finish in SEC country at the 2008 Auburn Invitational Saturday, Oct. 4.
"It's a huge meet," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "The race is so large, they're running two men's races. It's a total field 27 teams with two nationally-ranked in the Top 25. It's going to be quite a challenge, but we're looking forward to it."
Because of the split, Tech will participate in the 10:15 a.m. five-mile race against 26 other teams.
Last weekend, Senior Kinsey Dinnel again led the way for the Bulldogs with a time of 25 minutes, 2 seconds in the eight-kilometer race to finish second overall. Dinnel earned his second WAC Athlete of the Week honor this season after his performance.
Senior Zach Schuler crossed the line at 25:54 for ninth place. Senior Nate Davis took twelfth overall at 26:27 while sophomore David Monroe finished fourteenth at 26:58. Freshman Jack Ramstad finished nineteenth at 27:04.
Sophomore Chico Cortez (27:23) and sophomore Kyle Davis (27:27) finished twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth, respectively.
The top five finishers for each team earn points depending on their respective places, which added up to a 54-56 score in favor of LSU.
Freshman Josh Slocum rounded out Tech finishers at 28:03 for a thirty-second place finish.
Tech will participate in the Chile Pepper Invitational in two weeks marking the final meet before the 2008 WAC Championships in Las Cruces, N.M.
"These are the two of the best meets in the United States," Stanley said. "There are very, very tough fields. Hopefully, it will help us get some good experience heading into the conference meet."
