LAWRENCE, Kansas - Val Chapple and Ally Stanton each drove home three runs to lead Kansas to an 11-3 win over Louisiana Tech at the Lady Jayhawks Invitational Sunday.
Tech (16-14) grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Kyle Bassett's infield single drove home Emma Barnes who led the frame off with a walk.
However, the Jayhawks would respond thanks in large part to a pair of errors by Tech second baseman Heather Doiron as KU led 2-1 after one inning.
Kansas then blew the game open in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs on five hits on another Tech error knocking Techster starter Krissi Oliver out of the game.
KU upped the advantage to 9-1 by plating two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to two hits and Tech's fourth error of the game.
Tech was one out away in the top of the fifth inning from having the eight-run rule stop the game by Amberly Waits hit a two-run home run off Kansas relief pitcher Allie Clark - sister of Techster catcher Regan Clark.
However, Kansas scored two more runs in its half of the fifth inning to end the game 11-3.
Waits and Bassett each registered two hits for Tech.
Oliver (5-7) took the loss, allowing six runs - four earned - on five hits and two walks in only 1.0 inning of work. Wanda Malone came on relief and allowed five runs - three earned - on seven hits in 3.1 innings of action.
Tech returns to action Tuesday when the Lady Techsters host UL-Monroe at 6 p.m.
