RUSTON - Louisiana Tech hosts an important three-game Western Athletic Conference series this weekend when the Lady Techsters face Utah State starting Friday night at 6 p.m.
The two teams will also square off Saturday at 1 p.m. in a softball doubleheader.
Tech (26-23, 4-7 WAC) currently sits in fifth place in the WAC standings while Utah State (11-24, 2-9) is seventh.
The Lady Techsters are looking for their first winning season since 1999 and are still hoping to move up in the league standings heading into the WAC Tournament May 7-10 in Honolulu.
Tech is coming off a doubleheader sweep over McNeese State Wednesday in which the Lady Techsters outscored the Cowgirls 10-1.
The Tech pitching staff continues to impress as Krissi Oliver (12-11, 2.18), Meghan Krieg (5-2, 1.20) and Mandi Bertsch (8-7, 1.90) have formed a formidable trio.
Amberly Waits leads Tech offensively as she continues her assault on the Lady Techster record books. Waits is batting .421 with nine doubles, eight triples, seven home runs and 37 RBI.
Senior Regan Clark will be playing her final home series after a stellar four-year career as she will be honored between games in Saturday's doubleheader.
Offensively, Utah State boasts five regulars batting .300 or above led by Kelley Kaneshiro (.386, 7 HR, 23 RBI), Kayla Dunn (.370, 3 HR, 15 RBI), Emily Reilly (.324, 2 HR, 11 RBI), Amy Schaible (.310, 4 HR, 20 RBI) and Aubrie Stroman (.306, 4 HR, 14 RBI).
In the circle, Utah State's team earned run average is 5.60. Their ace is Lindsey Benson, who sports a 10-17 mark with a 4.77 earned run average.
