RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters will host Hawaii Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center at 7 p.m. in Western Athletic Conference action.
LA Tech (11-4, 2-1 WAC) has won two straight games and eight of its last nine with the lone setback coming in a 69-66 loss to Utah State in the WAC opener. Hawaii (8-10, 2-3) is coming off a 16-point victory over Utah State on Monday night in Honolulu.
The Lady Techsters continue to be led by the one-two inside punch of Shanavia Dowdell (18.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg) and Adrienne Johnson (16.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg) who have dominated opposing front lines in conference games. In Tech's three WAC contests this year, Dowdell and Johnson have outscored the opposing two post players 108-19 while outrebounding them 58-24.
Dowdell ranks 46th in the country in scoring, 11th in the country in rebounding and 18th in double doubles with eight, including a 23-point, 16-rebound effort in Tech's last game against New Mexico State.
As a team, Tech ranks among the nation's top offensive squads, ranking 19th in scoring at 77.3 points per game and 23rd in field goal percentage at 45.3 percent. Tech also ranks 25th nationally in rebounding margin at +7.5.
Hawaii has posted conference wins over Idaho (62-52) and Utah State while falling against Fresno State (83-42), New Mexico State (73-51) and Nevada (80-62).
Guard Keisha Kanekoa leads Hawaii offensively averaging 10.9 points per game while forward Breanna Arbuckle (8.6 ppg 6.0 rpg), guard Leilani Galdones (7.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg) and forward Dita Liepkalne (6.8 ppg) also contribute on a nightly basis.
The Lady Techsters lead the all-time series against Hawaii 20-3, including a 7-1 mark in Ruston.
