Postgame Quotes

LOUISIANA TECH (2-4, 1-1) 24, UTAH STATE (2-4, 0-2) 7
JOE AILLET STADIUM • RUSTON, LOUISIANA
OCT. 9, 2010 • ATTENDANCE: 16,703

Head Coach Sonny Dykes

On the game:
""It was good to get a win today. I am really proud of our team. We feel like we are a better team than our record has indicated this season. We've kept working and we have gotten better as the season has progressed."

On the team's performance:
"The defense was outstanding today. It was very exceptional for us to keep Utah State out of the end zone. Our team played tough today. The offense keeps getting better each week because they keep believing in each other. We ran for nearly 300 yards today. I am proud of our team and proud of what we did today. Today's win is something that we can build upon."

On the offensive production:
"(Offensive coordinator) Tommy Franklin was very creative with the offense. The offense only turned the ball over once. However, we had about eight penalties that killed too many drives. That is something that we need to fix."

On the play of Tim Molton:
"Tim had a great week at practice and he came up big with a touchdown reception on the first drive. The second half kind of became a battle of field position. Molton was able to give us a spark on offense today."

On the offensive play calling:
"We felt that it was important to run the football today. We had a lot of different options with the running game. We had several third down conversion so that helped out the offense."

On the defense not surrendering a touchdown:
"We have some guys that are finally becoming players. The only way you can become a player is to play. I thought our defense tackled well and played good fundamental football."

On what the win means for the team:
"We are just excited to get the win and we tightened up as a team today. We got a sense on Tuesday that we were a different football team. Today was an important win for our team; however, we can still get better. We have the chance to be a very good team if we can build off of today and clean up the penalties."

Junior DL Matt Broha

On the defensive effort:
"We were flying around on the field today. It was the most fun that I have seen our defense have this season."

On the importance of getting the win:
"We knew that 1-4 was not a good enough record and our flight home from Hawaii gave us time to think. We knew that we had to switch a few things around. Each week is always critical. We still have a lot of potential to do some good things this season."

Junior WR Taulib Ikharo

On the offensive production:
"We spent all week just trying to find our offense. We moved a lot of players around and tried multiple packages. If the offense is clicking like today, we knew that we could be successful."

Junior LB Adrien Cole

On getting two second half tackles after recording 10 in the first half:
"I just wasn't as fortunate as I was in the first half."

On the defensive effort tonight:
"We felt like after the Hawaii game we were ashamed because we are not that type of defense. That is not how Spangler instilled this brand of defense into us and felt like we had a point to prove in this game. To be honest, this wasn't for the fans or anyone else, this was for us. We needed to prove we were able to put that last game behind us and move on."

On stopping the long plays:
"You can tell we stopped the long plays. Obviously, that's the difference between giving up 600 yards in a game and giving up less than 200 yards in a game. We spent this week focusing on missed tackles. We thought that was a big problem in the Hawaii game and wanted to fix that."

Senior QB Ross Jenkins

On the offense:
"We had several good drives tonight. Once we start making a couple first downs we start getting a little bit better feel for the offense and you can tell - on our long drives I think we scored on all of them but that blocked field goal."

On Tim Molton:
"He adds another dimension to our offense. Ha made a long 44-yard run in one play that I probably couldn't have been able to make."

On Tech's defense:
"I knew that if we as an offense went out there and executed then we were going to win because I know how good our defense is."
