DENVER - After tying an NCAA record with his eighth career return for a touchdown, Louisiana Tech's Phillip Livas has been named the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week. In addition, Livas and Lennon Creer were named the Special Teams and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the LSWA.
A senior from Houma, La. (South Terrebonne HS), Livas returned a punt a career-long 88 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter of Louisiana Tech's 45-38 win at San Jose State. It was his eighth career return (kick or punt) for a touchdown, tying an NCAA record set by five others. He had a total of three punt returns for 103 yards and added a kickoff return for 27 yards against the Spartans.
Livas will have a chance to become the sole NCAA record holder on Dec. 4 when the Bulldogs play host to No. 14 Nevada in a game with big implications. A win for Louisiana Tech would mean the program would become bowl eligible in Sonny Dykes' first year as head coach while a Nevada win would clinch at least a share of the WAC title for the Wolf Pack.
Creer ran for a dominating 252 yards against San Jose State, scoring three touchdowns and becoming the first LA Tech player to run for over 200 yards in a game since Ryan Moats in 2004. Creer pushed his season mark over the 1,000-yard plateau as he averaged 8.4 yards per carry ran was fourth in the nation in rushing over the weekend.
