HONOLULU - Louisiana Tech will look to wrap up a sweep of its current two-game road swing when the Lady Techsters face Hawaii Saturday night at 9 p.m. CT at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Lady Techsters (17-6, 8-3 WAC) defeated New Mexico State 62-55 Wednesday night in Las Cruces before traveling to the island Thursday. Tech has won five straight games and currently sits alone in third place in the WAC standings, only one-half game behind second-place Nevada.
Hawaii (9-17, 3-10 WAC) is fighting for a spot in the upcoming WAC Tournament after the Rainbow Wahine fell 68-61 at San Jose State Wednesday. Hawaii is in eighth place in the nine-team league leading the Spartans by one game and only the top eight teams will advance to the league tournament which will be hosted in Reno in March.
Tech leads the all-time series against Hawaii 21-3, including an 11-2 mark on the island. The Lady Techsters defeated Hawaii 75-62 in Ruston on Jan. 16 in a game that saw Shanavia Dowdell and Adrienne Johnson both record double doubles.
Dowdell registered her 15th double double of the season in Tech's win over the Aggies Wednesday and has a current streak of nine straight games with a double double. Her 40 career double doubles ranks sixth in Tech history, behind only Pam Kelly, Venus Lacy, Elinor Griffin, Nora Lewis and Janice Lawrence.
Dowdell (17.8 ppg, 12.4 rpg) and Johnson (16.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg) are two of the top scorers and rebounders in the league.
Tech continues to get consistent production from the guard position each night as Teresa Weatherspoon is playing six guards each night, including Whitney Jones (11.5 ppg, 29 three-pointers), Tarkeisha Wysinger (7.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg), Jasmine Bendolph (7.0 ppg, 3.9 apg), Brietta Thomas (5.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Tiawana Pringle (5.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg) and Martina Holloway (2.0 ppg, 2.2 apg).
Hawaii, who posted a non-conference win over Big 12 Kansas State, is led by junior guard Keisha Kanekoa (11.2 ppg), who is the only Rainbow Wahine who is averaging in double figures.
