RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech head coach Sonny Dykes announced the Bulldogs' 2010 signing class Wednesday at a luncheon held at the Ruston Civic Center. LA Tech's 2010 class has a total of 20 young men that will join the program by this fall.
Tech inked 15 of the 20 signees on Wednesday after having previously committed to Louisiana Tech including gray shirts D.J.. St. Julien and Andre Taylor, transfer Tim Molton and December junior college committals Justin Goodman and Josh Tillman.
"I'm really excited about this signing class," said Dykes. "I think the Louisiana Tech family is going to learn a lot about these guys and be proud of them. It's an excellent class and is a culmination of a lot of hard work by our assistant coaches. I think they did an excellent job of holding this class together during the transition and I couldn't be more proud of what we did."
This year's recruiting class includes 11 players from Texas, seven from Louisiana and one each from Alabama and Mississippi. The 2010 class brings 19 all-state honors with Noah Cheshier, Kevin Kisseberth, Carter Street and Josh Tillman bring multiple all-state accolades with them. Kisseberth earned all-state honors his senior year as a tight end and as a defensive end.
Most of the recruiting class was held in place as Louisiana Tech went through a coaching transition that resulted in the hiring of Dykes, a hire acclaimed by the national media.
While ranked in the mid-90s by the major recruiting services, Tech did bring in nine players that were ranked with three stars by Rivals.com, the second straight year Tech has brought in so many three-star athletes. The nine athletes bringing a three-star ranking is the most of any single year since the turn of the century.
With a total of 20 players credited to the 2010 class, Louisiana Tech can still add a handful of players to its ranks for the 2010 season.
"I think we'll fill most of the spots [left]," Dykes said. "I think we'll find a punter, which is something, that certainly needs to be addressed, but we have a pretty good plan to do that. I think that we need to find one or two additional offensive and defensive linemen. There are a lot of guys that emerge this time of year and we just need to sit back, take a look and, most importantly, take someone that you think can most contribute to your program. There are a lot of good football players out there, we just need to find the ones that fit the system the best."
The Louisiana Tech T-Day Spring Game has been set for a noon kickoff at Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturday, April 10, 2010 for the first major public debut of the Sonny Dykes' era at Tech.
