RUSTON - Louisiana Tech senior forward Shanavia Dowdell added another honor to her already impressive resume Tuesday when she was voted on to the WBCA All-Region 7 team, making her one of 52 nominees for the 2010 State Farm Coaches' All-American Team.
Dowdell was joined on the All-Region 7 team by Fresno State guard Jaleesa Ross, San Diego State guard Jene Morris and TCU forward Helena Sverrisdottir.
Dowdell, the two-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the 2010 WAC Tournament MVP, averaged 17.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game this year while leading the Lady Techsters to the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2006.
The 6-foot-2-inch power forward led the nation with 21 double doubles this season while ranking third nationally in rebounding. Dowdell scored 20 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in Tech's 68-66 win over Fresno State in the championship game of the 2010 WAC Tournament.
The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team selection committee will review these 52 candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Tuesday, March 23. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team for NCAA Division I will be announced in the Alamodome on Center Court between open practices on Saturday, April 3, at 1:05 p.m. CT as a part of the NCAA's Super Saturday events in San Antonio, Texas.
